Drop B guitar tuning: B F♯ B E G♯ C♯
Tune a six-string guitar to Drop B in the low-to-high order B1, F♯2, B2, E3, G♯3 and C♯4, with the bottom B octave below the open second string.
A low B drop tuning for six strings
Drop B lowers the sixth string five semitones from E2 to B1 and moves the other five strings down three semitones. The result preserves a drop-style power-chord relationship on the lower strings while placing the entire guitar in a very low register.
This is materially lower than E Standard and needs an appropriate string gauge, setup and intonation check. Tune one string at a time, mute sympathetic vibration and make gradual adjustments so the detector can settle on the low B fundamental.
How to tune accurately
- 1Use heavier suitable strings and select the sixth-string B1 target before loosening the low E.
- 2Tune the sixth string down to B1 with small pauses so the low reading can stabilize.
- 3Continue through F♯2, B2, E3, G♯3 and C♯4 while muting unused strings.
- 4Recheck all six strings and the guitar's intonation after the neck settles into the lower tension.
