Baritone ukulele tuner: D G B E
Tune a standard Baritone ukulele from the fourth string D3 through G3, B3 and E4. The tuner opens in the Baritone preset, ready for the lower DGBE setup.
Choose DGBE for a standard Baritone setup
Standard Baritone tuning rises in pitch from D3 to G3, B3 and E4. These are the same pitches as strings 4 through 1 of a guitar in Standard tuning. They differ from the GCEA setup commonly used on soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles, so a general High-G ukulele target is not the right starting point.
Check the installed strings before tuning. A Baritone can have a deliberately different setup, and instrument size alone cannot identify every string set. Use the maker’s intended tuning. Do not tighten a normal DGBE Baritone set to GCEA merely to match a familiar ukulele chord chart.
How to tune accurately
- 1Check that the instrument and strings use standard Baritone DGBE, then open the tuner and grant microphone access.
- 2Select string 4, D3, and sound it alone. Keep the other strings muted while adjusting its peg.
- 3Continue to G3, B3 and E4. Use small turns near the center and allow one second in the green ±5-cent zone.
- 4Recheck the D3 string and play a chord from a Baritone chord chart. Repeat the tuning pass if the strings have just been replaced.
Notes and frequencies
| Physical string | Target | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| String 4 | D3 | 146.83 Hz |
| String 3 | G3 | 196.00 Hz |
| String 2 | B3 | 246.94 Hz |
| String 1 | E4 | 329.63 Hz |
Changing the tuner calibration recalculates every target from A4 = 415–450 Hz. The values above use the common 440 Hz reference.
Frequently asked questions
Should a Baritone ukulele be tuned to GCEA?
Standard Baritone tuning is DGBE. GCEA is possible with a purpose-made alternative setup, but should not be assumed for the strings already fitted.
Can I use a guitar tuner for Baritone ukulele?
Yes, if it offers chromatic notes or the exact D3 G3 B3 E4 targets. This preset presents just the four Baritone strings, avoiding unused guitar targets.
Does tuner.love upload my microphone audio?
