Open D minor versus Open D major
Open D minor shares the D and A framework of Open D major but uses F natural instead of F♯ on the third string. That one change swaps the major third for a minor third, giving the open guitar a darker D-minor harmony for slide, drone and fingerstyle work.
Like Open D, four strings move down from E Standard: both E strings become D, G3 becomes F3 and B3 becomes A3. A2 and D3 remain unchanged, which makes the conversion easy to check against the visible note order.

How to tune accurately
- 1Lower the sixth string from E2 to D2, then verify the unchanged A2 and D3 strings.
- 2Lower G3 to F3, taking care not to stop at F♯3 from Open D major.
- 3Lower B3 to A3 and high E4 to D4.
- 4Strum the open D-minor chord and make a final low-to-high pass through all six strings.
