Standard four-string bass tuning
Standard four-string bass tuning is E1 A1 D2 G2, one octave below the corresponding four lowest guitar strings. The lowest note is E1 at about 41.20 Hz when A4 = 440 Hz.
Mute the strings you are not tuning and use a moderate pluck. If the microphone catches a higher harmonic, select the intended string and try again. The tuning menu also includes lowered setups such as Drop D and BEAD; choose strings suited to a materially lower tuning.

How to tune accurately
- 1Select the low E1 string and pluck it cleanly while muting A, D and G.
- 2Let the note sustain; avoid repeated hard attacks while the marker is settling.
- 3Tune upward through A1, D2 and G2, holding each within ±5 cents for one second.
- 4Recheck E1 after all four strings are finished.

Bass fundamentals are low and can be quieter than their harmonics. A clean single-string pluck, close placement and muting unused strings improve the reading.
Is bass EADG the same octave as guitar?
No. A four-string bass uses E1, A1, D2 and G2, one octave below the guitar's corresponding four lowest strings.
